6th Class visit to Kildrought House, Celbridge

22nd May 2024

6th Class spent a lovely morning in Kildrought House. They enjoyed pineapple juice, elderberry cordial and buns in the beautiful gardens, followed by a tour of the oldest domestic house in Celbridge, built between 1718 - 1720 for Robert Baillie who was an upholsterer and tapestry weaver. He was invited out to live in Celbridge by William Conolly who was building Castletown House at this time. Two of Robert Baillie's tapestries can be seen in The Irish House of Lords Chamber, now The Bank of Ireland building in College Green.

Peyton, Shane, Alice and Leonie got the opportunity to play the harpsichord.

The curent owners of Kildrought House, the Stuart family, have been refurbishing the building since they bought it in 1985. Thank you to Mrs. Stuart who showed us around her home.
